Data Deletion

Last updated: February 2026

The short version: DNA Explore never stores your genetic data on our servers. Your genome file is processed entirely in your web browser. To delete all locally stored data, click the “Clear data” button on your dashboard, or clear your browser's site data for dnaexplore.ai. There is nothing for us to delete on our end because we never had it.

1. Why We Have a “Clear Data” Button

When you upload a genome file to DNA Explore, all parsing and analysis happens locally in your web browser using client-side JavaScript. To preserve your results across page refreshes and browser sessions, we store the parsed genome data in your browser's IndexedDB (a browser-local database) and some preferences in localStorage. Both are local storage mechanisms built into your browser — they exist only on your device and are never accessible to our servers or any third party.

The “Clear data” button on the dashboard instantly removes all of this locally stored data, including:

  • Your parsed genome data (stored in IndexedDB)
  • Chat conversation history (stored in localStorage)
  • Display preferences and session state (stored in localStorage)
  • Any cached analysis results

After clearing, it is as if you never used DNA Explore. No trace of your genetic data remains in the browser.

2. What Data Exists Where

On Your Device (Browser Storage)

This is where your genetic data lives. It never leaves your device unless you actively choose to use AI-powered features (see section 3 below).

  • IndexedDB: Parsed genome data (SNP identifiers and genotypes)
  • localStorage: Chat history, display preferences, payment token (if purchased)

How to delete: Click “Clear data” on the dashboard, or go to your browser settings and clear site data for dnaexplore.ai.

On Our Infrastructure

DNA Explore does not operate any servers or databases that store user data. Our application is deployed as a static site with serverless functions. These functions process AI requests in real-time and do not log, cache, archive, or retain any genetic data. Your raw genome file has never touched our infrastructure.

The only data that may be associated with your use of DNA Explore on our servers is:

  • Payment records: If you purchased Full Access, Stripe (our payment processor) retains a record of the transaction. This includes your email address and payment details, but no genetic information. See section 5 for how to request deletion of payment records.
  • Email address: If you voluntarily submitted your email via the research alerts signup form, it is stored in our form collection service. See section 5 for how to request deletion.

At Anthropic (AI Provider)

If you used AI-powered features (Ask My DNA chat, AI Health Report, Explain This, or Ask AI About This), variant summaries — not your raw genome file — were sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. Per Anthropic's API usage policy, data sent via the API is not used to train their models and is not retained beyond the immediate request processing. These requests are proxied in real-time through serverless functions and are not logged or retained.

3. How to Delete All Your Data

Step 1: Clear Browser Data (Immediate)

This removes all genetic data stored on your device:

  • Go to your DNA Explore dashboard
  • Click the “Clear data” button (top right of the page)
  • Confirm the deletion when prompted

Alternatively, you can clear all site data for dnaexplore.ai through your browser settings:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → View permissions and data stored across sites → Search for “dnaexplore.ai” → Delete
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data → Search for “dnaexplore.ai” → Remove Selected
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → Search for “dnaexplore.ai” → Remove
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data → See all cookies and site data → Search for “dnaexplore.ai” → Delete

Step 2: Request Deletion of Non-Genetic Data (If Applicable)

If you would like us to delete any non-genetic data we may hold (email address from research alerts signup, or if you want Stripe payment records removed), please email us at legal@dnaexplore.ai with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”. Include:

  • The email address you want removed
  • Whether you want us to delete your email from our research alerts list, request deletion of Stripe payment records, or both

We will process your request within 30 days and confirm deletion via email.

4. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have specific legal rights regarding your personal data:

  • GDPR (European Economic Area): You have the right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) under Article 17. Since your genetic data is processed locally, this right is inherently satisfied — you control deletion at all times. For any data we do hold (email, payment records), contact us as described above.
  • CCPA / CPRA (California): You have the right to request deletion of personal information. We do not sell personal information. For deletion requests, contact us as described above.
  • UK GDPR: Same rights as GDPR apply. Contact us for any deletion requests.
  • LGPD (Brazil): You have the right to request deletion of personal data processed with your consent.
  • Facebook / Meta Platform Requirements: This page serves as our data deletion callback URL as required by Meta Platform policies. DNA Explore does not receive or store any data from Facebook. If you connected to DNA Explore through a Facebook integration, no Facebook data was collected or stored by us.

5. What We Cannot Delete (Because We Never Had It)

To be completely transparent: we cannot delete your genetic data from our infrastructure because it was never there. DNA Explore has no servers, no databases, and no backend storage. Your genome file was processed entirely in your browser's memory and local storage. The only way to delete it is to clear your browser data as described in Step 1 above.

This is a deliberate architectural choice. By never receiving or storing your genetic data, we eliminate the possibility of data breaches, unauthorized access, or compelled disclosure of genetic information. You retain sole custody of your data at all times.
